MUTH, IMAGINATION, TAMARA AMONG SATURDAY’S WORKERS Two of Bob Baffert’s GI Preakness Stakes candidates, Muth and Imagination, worked six furlongs in company Saturday at Santa Anita. Also working was Grade I winner Tamara, who is on the comeback trail for trainer Richard Mandella.

Muth, working on the inside, and Imagination each earned a bullet when clocked in 1:11.40. Muth is exiting a win in the GI Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park March 30. Imagination most recently was second by a neck to Stronghold in the GI Santa Anita Derby April 6.

The Preakness Stakes is in two weeks at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. In this weekend’s Preakness Stakes Future Wager Pool, which closes at 3 p.m. PT, Muth was trading as the 7-2 favorite Saturday morning. Imagination was 19-1.

Muth, by Good Magic, is 6: 4-2-0 with $1,504,100 in earnings. Imagination, an Into Mischief colt, is 6: 2-4-0 with $406,800.

Tamara worked four furlongs in 47.80. It was her sixth work since April 4.

Produced by Hall of Famer Beholder, Tamara hasn’t started since finishing seventh as the favorite Nov. 3 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita. She exited the race with a left hind leg injury that required time off.

Prior to the Breeders’ Cup, the Bolt d’Oro filly won the GI Del Mar Debutante at Del Mar for owner-breeder Spendthrift Farm.

In all, there were 166 timed workouts at Santa Anita.

QUALITY 10-RACE PROGRAM SET FOR SUNDAY AT SANTA ANITA To help cap off Kentucky Derby weekend, Santa Anita has assembled a quality 10-race program highlighted by the GIII, $100,000 Senorita Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on the hillside turf course.

The card, which begins at 1 p.m. PT, averages 8.0 starters per race before scratches. In addition to the Senorita, the slate also includes a trio of intriguing maiden races and four events for allowance horses.

The Senorita goes as the seventh race at 4:10 p.m. Contested at about 6 ½ furlongs, the Senorita features a rematch between 5-2 favorite Laulne for trainer Phil D’Amato and 3-1 co-second choice Alluring for Richard Mandella.

In the April 7 Angels Flight Stakes, also on the hillside course, winner Laulne with Antonio Fresu aboard and runner-up Alluring with Umberto Rispoli up were separated by just a nose on the wire. Also looming in the field is 3-1 co-second choice Flattery, a stakes winner last year for trainer Peter Eurton. She is making her first start since an off-the-board finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Nov. 3 at Santa Anita.

The field for the Senorita in post position order: Girl of My Dreams, Kyle Frey (12-1); Laulne, Antonio Fresu (5-2); Alluring, Umberto Rispoli (3-1); Flattery, Juan Hernandez (3-1); Rascality, Mike Smith (5-1); Visually, Edwin Maldonado (20-1); Shamrockin, Geovanni Franco (12-1); Antifona, Hector Berrios (5-1).

A maiden race for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs on turf received 17 entries and was split. In the first division, which goes as the opener, European import Highly Desirable is a lukewarm 7-2 favorite for trainer Richard Baltas. The only filly in a field of 10, the 4-year-old hasn’t started since September 2022 in her native Ireland. She will have Jose Valdivia Jr. aboard for her U.S. unveiling.

The other division goes as the third and has a field of eight. The 5-2 favorite for trainer Tim Yakteen is All That Glory, a 3-year-old colt by Goldencents who was beaten just three-quarters of a length in a similar event March 22 when trying turf for the first time. Fresu will ride All That Glory for the first time.

Also split for Sunday’s card is an allowance/optional claimer at a mile on turf for 3-year-olds and up. In the first division, which goes as the fifth, European import Halfway Line is the 5-2 favorite for trainer Phil D’Amato. The 4-year-old gelding by Zoffany was a three-time winner in France. He will have Fresu aboard for his U.S. bow.

The second division, which goes as the 10th and final, is led by 5-2 favorite City of Exile for D’Amato. The 4-year-old Cityscape gelding has made two local starts since arriving from Europe. He was beaten just a nose in a similar maiden race Jan. 7 then tried winners in a first-level allowance and was beaten just 1 ½ lengths when checking in fourth. Perennial Santa Anita leading rider Juan Hernandez rides City Exile for the first time.

SUNDAY’S $1 COAST-TO-COAST PICK 5 STARTS AT 1:50 P.M. PT The $1 Coast-to-Coast Pick 5 Sunday starts with the eighth race from Gulfstream Park at 1:50 p.m. PT.
